Bringing home the puppy home is one of the most enjoyable things that you can enjoy with the young puppy. After that, you are now thrusts into the role of a mother hen or an alpha male type of owner to raise the dog properly.
You would have to be very patient when raising a puppy. This will take a very long time and will sometimes be depressing. It will be depressing when you keep repeating things to the point that your dog does not seem to be responding. You would then be left wondering if this dog is deaf or is purposely doing this to piss me off.
Despite of all the challenges of training a puppy, you should always remember that in the end it will be for both your benefit. If you leave your puppy untrained, it will think that it’s the alpha male in your household and may make you do things you purposely hate.
Just think about the situation when it is the dog that’s becoming the boss. The dog will be pulling you out of the house just to walk the dog. Or the dog can bother you just to cook it a great home cooked dog food. Isn’t that worth thinking about? It will be much more depressing when that happens because you’ll be the laughing stock of people or even dogs.
Just like in anything else in life keeping a positive point of view helps. Even in training your puppy. When your puppy keeps on destroying stuff, humping guests or even mess up the garbage, scolding it in a negative matter won’t help. When you keep saying “No” to your puppy, the puppy will become confused. The puppy will not know what exactly it did wrong.
Instead the puppy should be trained in a positive manner. Make her do what you would want to do. When the puppy is nearing its call of nature, immediately bring the dog outside. After which bring the dog to your pesky neighbor’s lawn and tell the dog that it’s ok to crap there. Then give the dog a treat. This will make the dog learn that crapping outside is the good thing.
The main point is that when you see your pet doing well or would want them to do good bribe them with something good. I.e. when the dog is chewing its own chewing toy, you should reward it. When it is barking away at a pesky and irritating person, you should reward it too.
Remember keeping a positive attitude when training dogs counts. It is better to keep a positive attitude while training the dog earlier than having a negative attitude fro life because the dog has become your owner.

Inhalant Allergies In Dogs And Cats

Several objects in the environment can be inhaled by pets and can trigger allergic reactions in dogs and cats. These objects induce the cells of the pets to release substances such as histamine. With histamine, the irritation begins.
The objects in the environment that cause this type of allergies are called allergens. Some examples of these allergens are the following:
· Pollen from the surrounding flowering plants
· Dusts that have accumulated in several areas in the house
· Mites and similar tiny creatures that survive and live on dust
· Molds, fungi, and other similar low forms of plants. The spores from these can be inhaled by pets
Pets, upon exposure to the above allergens will show several symptoms. Among dogs, the major symptoms are:
· Unstoppable itching in the face and in the feet
· Other itching and irritation in several parts of the body
· Occurrence of sores and discharges
· Loss of hair
Among cats, the symptoms of inhalant allergies are:
· Unspecific itching
· Intolerable itching in the face, neck, and thighs
· Inflammation and sores in different parts of the body
· Loss of hair
When the above symptoms are displayed, especially on certain seasons, such as spring and summer, dogs or cats are most likely affected by pollen allergy. To accurately determine the occurrence of inhalant allergies, pets should be taken to the vet. The vet will carry out a skin test to find out if, indeed, the dog or cat is suffering from inhalant allergies. Some vets also conduct blood tests, but the results of this type of test are oftentimes uncertain.
The best treatment is prevention of further worsening of the allergy. That is, the source of the allergens should be removed. Sometimes, this is easy if the allergens are dusts and mites that live in them. A good cleaning is all that a pet owner needs to do. But sometimes, removing the allergen could be difficult. That is, taking away the flowering plant may not be feasible.
Thus, owners resort to other treatments. Two of these allergy treatments are:
· Anti-itch medicines – These medicines suppress the production of histamines. These can be taken orally or gently rubbed on the irritated area.
· Allergy shots – These can make the pets less sensitive to the presence of allergens. Vets can provide these allergy shots.
Not all cats and dogs suffer allergies when exposed to pollen and other inhaled allergens. The reason for this is their heredity. Other pets have genetic characteristics that predisposes them to have allergies.

Feeding And Keeping Your Dog Healthy

A healthy puppy should be clear-eyed, somewhat roly-poly, loose-skinned, free from any skin trouble, hungry for its meals, and lively. It should not be timid or shy.
If the puppy seems warm or sleepy most of the time, ask one of your parents to take its temperature. A dog’s temperature normally is between 38 and 39 degrees Celsius. If its temperature rises above 39 degrees, call your veterinarian.
When you buy your puppy, ask what shots it has received and when it got them. If it has not received shots to prevent distemper, infectious hepatitis, leptospirosis, and rabies. take it immediately to a veterinarian to have them. Then get yearly boosters.You should also find out whether your puppy has been wormed. Most puppies have worms at some time.

For the first few days, you should feed your puppy the same diet as the owners did. If you wish to change the diet, do so gradually. Each day, feed a little of the new food mixed with the old.
Puppies 6 to 10 weeks old maybe fed 4 times a day. From 10 weeks to 6 months, 3 times a day should be enough. After 6 months, twice daily will serve. And after 1 year, once a day—plus a biscuit for breakfast—is ample.
Meat should be the main part of your dog’s diet. Fresh, canned, or frozen beef or horsemeat are good choices. It is not necessary to cook the meat, but it should be served at room temperature. With the meat, mix a dog meal or kibbled biscuit soaked in hot water, soup, or milk. You can get the meal or biscuit in the supermarket, feed store, or pet shop. Puppies need vitamins and minerals, and your veterinarian can give you vitamin tablets that your dog will enjoy chewing.
Other foods you may safely give your dog are well-cooked chicken, lamb, beef hearts, liver, and leafy vegetables. Hard biscuits of the right size for the dog’s mouth and dog candy will be appreciated too. A little cooked rice or dry toast may help the dog in illness or when it is recovering.

A puppy loses its baby teeth when it is between 4 and 5 months. It will be grateful for beef hide or rawhide strips to chew. You can buy them at supermarkets and pet shops. These strips are also very helpful in keeping the puppy from chewing your shoes and the furniture. Pet shops and markets also carry special hard marrow bones that help in teething and in keeping the new teeth clean and healthy.
Leave a bowl of water so that your dog can have a drink at any time—but remove the supply of water at 5 or 6 PM when you're housebreaking a puppy. This will help the puppy go through the night without mistake.
